ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Allegra Ambrosio, and I’m an author and illustrator specializing in children’s poetry and picture books. Born and raised in the PNW, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Art from the University of Oregon and spent a few years living up and down the west coast working in fine art and video games. I also spent a few years studying in Japan, which heavily influenced my 2D/cartoonish art style.

I wrote my first children’s poetry book while living in Japan in high school. While the language was still new to me at the time, poetry was a way I could express myself thoughtfully, inspired by the beautiful scenery, culture, and people there. Over time, my writing style grew and my art with it. I enjoy rhyming in unexpected ways, infusing a bit of humor and whimsical art into all of my work.

I recognize the importance of not just the words or the art when it comes to children’s literature, but how they work together to build a memory/experience between the reader and listener. That is truly what makes children’s books so special and what makes “The Greats” so great. My goal is not for readers to remember what they read or what was illustrated on the page, but how they felt when reading and who they were reading along with.
