Excerpt

The Crawdoots were a band of peculiar folk.

Of all Doots in Dootdom, the Craws barely spoke.

They kept to themselves in their strangely-shaped home.

All very busy in a world of their own.

Their ancient house was simple, small and weathered.

Once solid red paint was now worn and checkered.

Sitting up on a peak, and just out of view,

Where the oddest of oddest of odd things grew.

In their messy front yard: a big wooden box.

Inside it? A banquet of colorful crops.

Routine to the Crawdoots, a riddle to town:

They’d pick them and eat them. Then, put them back down.

Though the backyard was tucked behind rolling hills,

Some Doots caught glances–said it gave them the chills.

Dozens of large trees, all shapes, sizes and smells

With edible ornaments - must be a spell.

But, if I may, the weirdest part of it all,

Were the creatures to the side. Each, their own stall.

Some were large, some small, some saddled with leather.

My goodness! Oh, my! Some even had feathers!

A nosy neighbor saw a Craw in one’s coop.

“They left a basket of it’s white rocks on their stoop!”

“That’s nothing!” Piped a second. “I wouldn’t lie!”

Last week one took their big strange beast for a ride!”

One Doot to another, they’d gossip each night.

Observing the Craws as most uncivilized.

For all those in Dootdom from birth understood:

Follow the three rules just as all good Doots should.
